What is a Notary Public?

A notary public is an official, registered with the NSW Society of Notaries, to assist with the signing of important documents, including witnessing, as well as certifying copies of documents, to provide to international government or corporate entities, and obtaining government legalisation/apostille.

It is the responsibility of a notary public to ensure that documents are properly signed and authenticated, and that oaths are administered as per law.

Why You Need Notary Services

Notary services are crucial for a wide range of legal and business transactions, including:

  • Real Estate Transactions: Notaries ensure that property deeds, mortgage documents, and other real estate paperwork are properly executed.
  • Legal Documents: Affidavits, powers of attorney, and wills often require notarisation to be deemed valid.
  • Business Contracts: Many contracts and agreements, such as partnership agreements and loan documents, must be notarised to provide legal protection.
  • International Documents: Notarisation may be required for documents going overseas, such as visa applications or adoption papers.
  • Applications for Citizenship or Residency in another country: Identity and other requested documents are likely needing to be notarised and an apostille or legalisation applied, prior to providing such documents to a foreign embassy or consulate.
